The Third Annual
Ride The Wind Rally 2009
The third annual Ride The Wind Rally began at 6PM on June 19th with a Karaoke Contest presented by Terri's Barefoot Country, Mobile Musical Entertainment. For an entry fee of $10.00, 11 singers competed for the $100.00 top prize and the $50.00 runner-up prize as well as gift certificates donated by local merchants. Approximately 250 spectators attended the festivities with an admission of nonperrishable food for the area food bank.
The judjes were; Marty and Diane Clifton of Aurora, Colorado, Todd Steuben and Mika Stainbrook of Missoula, Montana, Larry Brasea, music teacher, from Arizona and our own Vista Lea of Harlowton, Montana.
Mallory Faus won first prize, Lindsay Thatcher won second prize and Alex Nelson won third prize. All other
contestants received gift certificates and T-shirts...everyone was a winner! The food drive netted nearly a quarter of a pickup box full of food.
Sponcers included; The Harlowton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, Snowy Mountain Trading Post, Sportsman's Bar, Wade's Drive Inn, Snowy Mountain Coffee, Misner's Jail House Pizza, Mason Dixon Antigues, Engineer's Depot, Graves Lounge, Biegal,s Bar and The Reel Pro Sound Guys.
The evening was capped off with karaoke and dance presented by Paul Nelson at the Sportsman's Bar.
Karaoke Contest 2009
The Show and Shine began at 9:30 am on June 20 with the sign-up and setup. The bikes were displayed from 10:00 am until noon. There were thirteen motorcycles entered and 43 people cast votes for their favorite motorcycle on display.
First Place was won by the 2003 Indian Spirit Roadmaster owned by Larry Steuben of Harlowton, Montana.
Second Place ended in a tie between the Harley Davidson V Rod owned by Brand Nelson of Forsyth, Montana and the Harley Davidson Dyna Low Rider owned by Kevin Schaff of Forsyth, Montana.
A raffle was held for everyone that participated in the show and shine and everyone that cast a vote for a motorcycle. A motorcycle clean-up kit donated by Harlo Auto Parts was won by Marty Clifton of Aurora, Colorado and a Henry Firearms T-shirt donated by Rocky Mountain Promotions was won by a person whose name has been lost.
At 12:30 pm fifteen motorcycles paraded through Central Avenue and down to Chief Joseph Park to have lunch at the old fashioned Bar-B-Que picknic. The pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw, brownies, jello, pink lemonade and iced tea were prepared by Leanne Kent of Harlowton, Montana and 85 people were fed.
Show & Shine 2009
Due to a scheduling malfunction the rodeo games were moved from the Howard Holloway Arena to the baseball field nearby. With only a short delay the competition got underway with judges Norman Sillivan of Harlowton, Montana and Vista Lea also of Harlowton presiding.
Twentytwo contestants entered the competition and sixtyeight fans filled the bleachers plus a number of spectators watching the events from the comfort of their automobiles.
The Slow Race was won by Shane Schreiber of Harlowton, Montana and the runner up was Miles Sillivan of Columbus, Montana.
The Ball Drop was won by Shawn and Shane Schreiber of Harlowton, Montana and the runners up were Todd Steuben and Mika Stainbrook of Missoula, Montana.
The Hoop Toss was won by Shane and Shawn Schreiber of Harlowton, Montana and the runners up were Norman Sillivan of Harlowton, Montana and Miles Sillivan of Columbus, Montana.
The Plank Race was won by Val Schreiber and Ivy Bacon both of Harlowton, Montana and the runners up were Marty and Harley Clifton of Aurora, Colorado.
The Balloon Toss was won by George Gil and Misty Castle both of Big Sky, Montana and the runners up were Val Schreiber and Angie Muller both of Harlowton, Montana.
The Hot Dog Bite was won Marty Clifton of Aurora, Colorado and Vista Lea of Harlowton, Montana and the runners up were George Gil and Misty Castle both of Big Sky, Montana.
The Barrell Race was won by Shawn Schreiber of Harlowton, Montana and the runner up was Shane Shreiber of Harlowton, Montana.
The First Date Contest was won by Shawn Schreiber of Harlowton, Montana and the runner up was Val Schreiber of Harlowton, Montana.
A raffle including all of the contestants was held and a $40.00 Gift Certificate donated by Central Lumber Company was won by Miles Sillivan of Columbus, Montana.
The day was capped off with a Bar-B-Q and Karaoke Dance DJ'd by Paul Nelson at the Two Dot Bar at Two Dot, Montana.
Rally 2009
The bike tour began at 9:00 am on June 21 with breakfast and sign-in at Wade's Drive Inn located at the junction of hiways 191 and 12 just East of Harlowton, MT.
At 10:00 am six motorcycles with ten riders left Harlowton headed West on highway 12 toward the
Bair Mansion Museum located near Martinsdale, MT. The tour of the museum began at 10:30 am and lasted until noon. Lunch was enjoyed at the Crazy Mountain Inn at Martinsdale, MT. During lunch the weather became threatening from the West and reports of bad weather conditions ahead to the West prompted the decision to cut the ride short and return to Harlowton where we met at the Sportsmans Club Restaurant.
Poker hands were delt to all participants with Best Hand won by Terri Roseland of Harlowton, MT, Lowest Hand was won by Larry Steuben of Harlowton, MT and Worst Hand was won by Harley Clifton of Aurora, CO.
A raffle was held that included all of the names of the participants and a ten dollar gift certificate donated by Midtown Market was won by Scott Kautzman of Livingston, MT. Another ten dollar gift certificate donated by Midtown Market was won by Harley Clifton of Aurora, CO.
